What we eat these days….

In a span of few weeks, so many emails have been sent out as an aftermath of the china tainted milk products. Those money grabbing people are so heartless and not having any conscience that even infants are being victimized. Makes me think, whatever is happening to the world now??

Here’s a recent list of the emails received:
1. Contaminated milk products with melamine – melamine is a chemical used for producing plastics, it was added as a filler in the milk product. The effect: kidney stone and some renal failure. Say ko ke Labs, maige pa kako e “am” na lang ipadede sa bebe….

2. Pangas fish from Vietnam – mainly sold as fillet fish and appear like Dory fish, use in fish and chips, cheaper compare to other fillet fish. The catch? These fishes was bred on the polluted river and fed waste, and injected with some chemical to let them grow faster….ngiii…di ba?

3. Baby carrots na babad sa chlorine - The small cocktail (baby) carrots you buy in small plastic bags are made using the larger crooked or deformed carrots which are put through a machine which cuts and shapes them into cocktail carrots, What you may not know and should know is the following: once the carrots are cut and shaped into cocktail carrots they are dipped in a solution of water and chlorine in order to preserve them (this is the same chlorine used in your pool) since they do not have their skin or natural protective covering, they give them a higher dose of chlorine. You will notice that once you keep these carrots in your refrigerator for a few days, a white covering will form on the carrots, this is the chlorine which resurfaces.

Aside sa mga food scare na yan, eto naman ang ibang items pa:
1. Plastic bottles material – at every plastic bottom there’s a mark of a triangle and a number inside that triangle, each number corresponds to the material used in making the plastic bottles re:
a. 1) Polyethylene terephalate (PET)
b. 2) High density polyethylene (HDPE)
c. 3) Unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (UPVC) or Plasticised polyvinyl chloride (PPVC)
d. 4) Low density polyethylene LDPE
e. 5) Polypropylene (PP)
f. 6) Polystyrene (PS) or Expandable polystyrene (EPS)
g. 7) Other, including nylon and acrylic

What you aren't told is that many of the plastics used are toxic and the chemicals used to create a plastic can leach out of the plastic and into the food / drink. The WORST ONES are Nos: 3, 6, and 7 !!!

2. Benzene daw inside a closed car – In brief: According to research done by a U.C., the car dashboard, sofa, air freshener will emit Benzene, a cancer causing toxin (carcinogen) . In addition to causing cancer, it poisons your bones, causes anemia, and reduces white blood cells. Prolonged exposure will cause Leukemia, increasing the risk of cancer. May also cause miscarriage. Acceptable Benzene level indoors is 50 mg per sq. ft. A car parked indoors with the windows closed will contain 400-800 mg of Benzene. If parked outdoors under the sun at a temperature above 60 degrees F, the Benzene level goes up to 2000-4000 mg, 40 times the acceptable level. The people inside the car will inevitably inhale an excess amount of the toxin. It is recommended that you open the windows and door to give time for the interior to air out before you enter. Benzene is a toxin that affects your kidney and liver, and is difficult for your body to expel."

Whew…..what a poisonous world….
